The Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashana) begins on the 3rd of October in the evening.

Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, in a special New Year's speech addressed from Jerusalem said "The past few months have not been easy for the citizens of Israel. However, I believe that we will emerge from this experience united, and that Israel's identity as a Jewish and democratic state will be strengthend."
