Congressmen of Polish Descent to be Honored
Gala awards dinner to honor the late Dr. Jan Karski on June 15, 2002

Washington, D.C.-The American Center of Polish Culture will honor all present and past Congressmen of Polish descent in a special ceremony at the Center's Washington headquarters on March 7 at 6:00 PM. "We have identified all past and present members of Congress, including their pictures and many of their accomplishments," said Dr. Kaya Mirecka Ploss, Executive Director of the Center. "All Polish American people are extremely proud of our contributions to the greatness of this country."
A diplomatic delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland will attend this ceremony, which will include the unveiling of a plaque that lists the names of all members of Congress, past and present of Polish heritage. The Deputy to the Ambassador, Minister-Counselor Boguslaw Winnid, will conduct the unveiling and will be the featured speaker.

Dr. Kirkpatrick to Lead Karski Dinner Committee

 

Washington, D.C.-The American Center of Polish Culture is proud to announce that Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick, former Ambassador to the United Nations will chair a committee, which will host a gala awards dinner to honor the late Dr. Jan Karski on June 15, 2002 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. "Dr. Kirkpatrick was a friend and colleague of Dr. Karski's," said Dr. Kaya Mirecka Ploss, Executive Director of the Center. "Dr. Kirkpatrick's experience ensures this project will be successful."

 

Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Adviser and one of the most respected scholars on Central Europe and Poland, also a friend of Dr. Karski's, has agreed to serve as the Honorary Chairman of the Committee.

 

The Committee will honor a person exemplifying Dr. Karski's ideals to receive The American Center for Polish Culture's First Annual Jan Karski Award for Courage and Compassion. The Person selected will receive the award at a dinner in Washington, DC in 2002. The criteria for the award and arrangements for presentation of the award are currently in the planning stages.

 

The American Center of Polish Culture has established a scholarship fund to honor Dr. Jan Karski, who was the first man to carry eyewitness news of the Holocaust to Allied leaders in London and Washington, DC in an effort to stop the Holocaust. Proceeds from the dinner will provide funding for the scholarship program.
