The summer tour presentation
of the theatre play "Life in a Jar" organized
by the "Irena Sendler Project"
July 2003 From the Editor:
At the end of July, Prof.
Norman Conard with his Uniontown students in Kansas
– the founding members of the "Irena Sendler Project"
- made a tour presenting their theatre play “Life in
a Jar” in several places from Detroit to New York City.
Below you will find some excerpts from the letters they
received after their trip that was a great success.
Comments from the audience
Hi to all of you amazing
people, (this is from Michigan)
I was privileged to be in the audience last Tuesday
and was totally amazed at the sensitivity and warmth
and love that you all demonstrated.
As a Jew and a docent at the Holocaust Center you visited
that day I want to tell you how very important what
you are doing will be to the world. I am hoping that
you present this not only to Jewish people but to others
who are not, because the ripple effect of educating
non-Jews is imperative.
Your depiction of the plight of the mothers and children
puts a face on the suffering and I think because we
all can identify with your characters it is a lasting
picture.
Because you are not Jewish
your message has even greater impact. I am so amazed
that in a school of your size and the lack of diversity
in which you were raised that you have opened yourselves
up to this that was so foreign to you. May God bless
you all and allow you to continue in this important
work. Thank you for all that you are doing.
Renee Gerger
Leanor Reizen of Okemos,
Michigan - "to the students, it was a real
privilege and a most touching experience to see the
enactment of the Irena Sendler story. There is hope
for the future with young people such as you."
We just wanted you and
the students to know that it was great
having you come and spread this story of one of GOD's
angels... Irena. We are Christians of the Baptist faith,
but we are all God's children. Beckley, West Virginia
Sincerely,
Paul&Gwen
Mildred Frumento of Chester, Connecticut says - "The
dedication and compassion expressed through the students'
work and committment to this project was overwhelming."
Dr. Leon Levitt of Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan
writes - "I wanted to thank you -- one of many
such expressions you've received, I'm sure -- for the
remarkable work you have done in the inspiring presentation
of "Life in a Jar." We attended the performance
last night at the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus.
'One person can make a difference' is borne out
by your work. "
More summer tour notes.....
"The presentation was
powerful, moving, and emotional. Many of us were truly
impressed with the students maturity, poise and incredible
dedication to projects of tolerance and diversity."
West Virginia
"I am so happy that
you all made it home safe and sound. It really must
have been an incredible journey - we were all so impressed
with you - the adults - and the patience and committment
you have to those kids...and the kids – I can't express
enough to you how moved we all were by there tenacity,
commitment and dedication. They are incredible role
models in so many ways.
Your message is so strong and your message is so important;
especially during these times in our history. "
Leslie Krumholz - Chester,
Connecticut
"Congratulations on
your program. I attended your presentaton in Dearborn.
The Polish community in the U.S. owes you much for emphasizing
the positive about Poles' efforts to help Jewish neighbors."
